04.01.03 Vulcan-American Group Angered by Portrayal on Enterprise
CARBON CREEK, PA — A watchdog group of Vulcan-Americans hailing from Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania is upset at the portrayal of their ancestral race on the popular TV show Enterprise.
"They [the producers] call it artistic license, we call it inaccurate," says Vulcan spokesperson and activist T´Pock. "As a group we feel that our relationship with planet Earth over the past few centuries — our nurturing of its development, our endless offers of enlightenment and guidance — should be on display more. Instead, we are portrayed as petulant, deceptive and completely emotional. Emotional? If there is one thing that Vulcans are not, it´s emotional!" he said, striking the podium for emphasis.
"If the show is not changed," says T´Pock, who also heads the affirmative action group Favorable Images of Vulcans in Entertainment (F.I.V.E.), "then we request a disclaimer is put at the beginning of each episode that states:
Attention: The portrayal of Vulcans on this show is pure fantasy and not representative of, and has no basis in, how logical and stoic Vulcans actually are.
One source was quick to point out that the Vulcans have in fact only been around Earth since the mid-50s, not centuries. The producers of Enterprise have noted that, in the meantime, they will add a disclaimer at the end of each episode that states: "No Vulcans were harmed in the making of this episode. Any resemblance to Vulcans, real or imagined, is unintentional. The last thing we want is a bunch of angry Vulcans on our case."
When asked to comment on this, T´Pock said, "I´m angry that they even think we could be angry."
